How geothermal energy works—James  There is a spring under ground with magma below it. The geothermal plant sends water down a pipe to the spring. The water heats up turning into steam traveling up another pipe to a steam generator

How a steam generator works— James  Once the steam travels up the pipe it reaches a steam generator  The steam from the pipes goes to a chamber where it travels up a pipe to a condenser. The steam falls, turning a turbine attached to electric generator. The steam is condensed travel up another pipe to where it started

Geothermal Energy Install— Evan  You can hire a contractor to drill, and install the unit (in your home or building) for a premium of 30% to 100%.

Pollution— Amyri While Geothermal energy is cost efficient, it produces harmful toxins that make our air and water usage. These toxins include arsenic, mercury, boron, lithium, and carbon dioxide which are harmful to the human body.

Geothermal Energy Cost—Evan  A Geothermal plant costs 70% of a fossil fuel plant. If you were going to get a smaller unit (say for a house), it will cost around $10,000 to $20,000 for the unit. For a big building (say for a business), it will cost around $25,000 to $35,000 for a unit. For the install, it will cost around $10,000. It seems like a lot of money upfront, but it will save you a lot of money in the future.

Geothermal Energy Location— Evan  You can put a Geothermal Plant or unit anywhere that you can find a hot spring, and have room on the surface, and underground for a drilling hole, an injection pump, and a heat exchanger.

Benefits—Ryan Geothermal Energy is a never-ending source. It is also about 70% of the cost of a fossil-fuel plant, and one plant can be used to heat an entire city. It also can be used to provide both hot and cold water. Finally, Geothermal releases only 1/25 of the carbon dioxide released by a fossil-fuel plant.

Consequences—Ryan Geothermal can ruin the beauty of a landscape by causing the ground to sag. It can also pollute the waterways near it, and release carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide into the atmosphere. Finally, geothermal removes heat from natural reservoirs at over 10 times the rate in which they can naturally replenish.

What about the environmental effects— Amyri These pollutions are not only harmful to humans but can harm the aquatic life when injected into bodies of water such as lakes or rivers and polluted water that is drank by animals can cause the animals to get poisoned. Toxins such as carbon dioxide linger in the air can harm the lungs of animals. Another effect that geothermal energy has on the environment is that the land may sink due to the reduction of pressure when extracting geothermal fluids.

Efficiency compared to fossil fuels Unlike fossil fuels, geothermal energy is renewable because it comes from the earth’s surface. Also geothermal energy is clean and cost efficient. Geothermal energy can reduce the dependence in foreign oil. Geothermal energy can generate without burning. Geothermal plants release a fraction of carbon dioxide as fossil fuels do. Geothermal plants also make less nitrous oxide and/or sulfur gases.
