Getting your licence With the NSW RTA, graduated licencing scheme Year 10 English Driving Issues

Graduated Licence Scheme The State Government introduced the Graduated Licensing Scheme in The scheme helps new drivers gain the necessary skills and driving experience before they obtain a full licence. Under the scheme, new drivers progress from a learner licence to a full licence over an extended period of time.

The Graduated Licensing Scheme requires new drivers to pass through three licensing stages before obtaining a full driver licence. Learner licence Provisional P1 licence Provisional P2 licence

To get your learner licence you must: Be at least 16 years of age. Pass a Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) at a motor registry. Prove your identity. Pass an eyesight test.

To get your provisional P1 licence you must: Be at least 17 years of age. Have held your learner licence for at least twelve months (if you are under 25 years of age). Have completed at least 120 hours driving practice (including 20 hours of night driving). Pass a driving test.

To get your provisional P2 licence you must: Have held a P1 licence for at least 12 months. Pass the Hazard Perception Test (HPT).

The DQT is a two-part, touch-screen computer- based test which assesses: Your knowledge of safe driving practices. Your ability to recognise and respond to potentially dangerous situations and react appropriately. for the interactive introduction to the DQT.

You need to make a booking to take the DQT by calling the RTA on or going to a registry or testing agency in your area. When you go to an RTA registry or testing agency to take the DQT your details will be checked

DKT (Knowledge Test) – Instructions. – Three practice questions with feedback. – 15 test questions. Go to online test; Learner licences are valid for five years. When you are issued with your learner licence, you will receive a Learner driver log book so that you and your supervising driver(s) can record your driving experience.

Be supervised at all times by the holder of a full Australian driver licence. Have L plates displayed conspicuously at the front and rear exterior of the car (or an L sign on the roof) when driving. The letter L on the plate must not be hidden. Observe a maximum speed limit of 80 km/h. Not tow any other vehicle. Not exceed zero blood alcohol concentration It is also illegal to drive under the influence of drugs. Not supervise another learner driver. Only carry the number of passengers that can be properly seated in seats and restrained by approved seat belts or child restraints. Only drive vehicles that have a seat belt fitted to the driver's position and you must wear the seat belt. Not use any functions of a mobile phone including hands free devices.

You are eligible to attempt the Driving Test if; 17 years of age or older, you have logged at least 120 hours driving time have held your learner licence for at least 12 months A P1 driver licence is issued for 18 months. You must hold a P1 licence for a minimum total period of 12 months before being eligible to progress to a P2 licence.

Have P plates displayed conspicuously at the front and rear exterior of the car when driving. The letter P on the plate must not be hidden. If towing a trailer, a P plate must be on the back of the trailer. Not exceed zero blood alcohol concentration (this means you cannot drink before driving). It is also illegal to drive under the influence of drugs. maximum speed limit of 90 km/h. Automatic transmission vehicles – You are restricted to driving an automatic or clutchless manual transmission vehicle if tested in one. Not supervise a learner driver. one passenger under the age of 21 between 11pm and 5am. Only carry the number of passengers that can be properly seated in seats and restrained by approved seat belts or child restraints. Only drive vehicles that have a seat belt fitted to the driver's position and you must wear the seat belt. Not use any functions of a mobile phone including hands-free devices. Not drive certain prohibited vehicles.
