The Outsiders Vocabulary

Gingerly Definition: cautious; carefully Part of Speech: adverb Sentence: I touched my cheek gingerly. "Really?“

Glaring Definition: to stare angrily or to shine brightly. Part of Speech: verb Sentence: Soda was glaring at him. "Leave my kid brother alone, you hear?

Incredulous Definition: unbelieving Part of Speech: adjective Sentence: She gave him an incredulous look; and then she threw her Coke in his face.

Asset Definition: something useful or valuable quality Part of Speech: noun Sentence: Not like the Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next.

Stocky Definition: heavily built, having a short and solid form Part of Speech: adjective Sentence: He was about six feet tall, stocky in build, and very proud of his long rusty-colored sideburns.

Stricken Definition: affected by something overwhelming Part of Speech: adjective Sentence: He looked up and across the field with a stricken expression on his face.
