Látalová K Nature conservation in the Vysočina Region Vysočina Region  Area: km 2  Population: inhabitants  Communities count: 704  Population density: 75 inhabitants per km 2  Average age: 39.5 years

Látalová K Nature conservation in the Vysočina Region Large-size protected areas - two categories in the Czech Republic  National park (NP)  Large areas that are unique on either a national or international level; most of them consist of natural ecosystems or ecosystems little influenced by man  4 NP in the Czech Republic – total area km 2  Independent autorities – each NP is managed by its Administration  constituted by the government of the Czech Republic  There is no national park in the Vysočina Region  Protected landscape areas (PLA)  Large areas od landscape formed in a balanced way, with characteristic relief, a significant portion of natural forests and permanent gramineceous vegetation ecosystems, a large portion consisting of woody species and in some cases conserved historical settlement monuments  25 PLA in the Czech Republic – total area km 2  constituted by the Czech Ministry of Environment  24 regional offices – PLA Administrations (Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic): executes state administration  There are 2 PLAs in the Vysočina Region  Železné hory (a part of total 284 km 2 )  Žďárské vrchy (a part of total 709 km 2 )

Látalová K Nature conservation in the Vysočina Region Special landscape protection in regional criterion  Nature parks  constituted by the Region´s government (Region´s Council)  9 nature parks in the Vysočina Region, total area km 2  Doubrava (a part of total 5.2 km 2 )  Melechov (32.3 km 2 )  Čeřínek (23.1 km 2 )  Bohdalovsko (60.7 km 2 )  Balinské údolí (4.3 km 2 )  Třebíčsko (88.6 km 2 )  Svratecká hornatina (a part of total 359 km 2 )  Rokytná (a part of total 28.8 km 2 )  Střední Pojihlaví (a part of total 24.1 km 2 )

Látalová K Nature conservation in the Vysočina Region Small-size protected areas (SPA) in the Vysočina Region  169 SPAs in the Vysočina Region  Four categories SPA in the Czech Republic  National nature reserves and National nature monuments:  constituted by the Czech Ministry of Environment  managed and executes state administration by the PLA Administrations (Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic)  7 National nature reserves (4 of them inside the PLA Žďárské vrchy)  3 National nature monuments  Nature reserves  56 reserves managed by the Regional Authority of the Vysočina Region  + 7 reserves managed by the PLA Administrations Žďárské vrchy and 6 reserves managed by the PLA Administrations Železné hory (there are inside the PLA)  Nature monuments  65 monuments managed by the Regional Authority of the Vysočina  + 25 monuments managed by the PLA Administrations Žďárské vrchy and a 2 monuments managed by the PLA Administrations Železné hory  Nature reserves and monuments outside the PLA are constituted by the Region´s government (Vysočina Regional Council)

Látalová K Nature conservation in the Vysočina Region The Vysočina Region is managing 121 protected areas (NR and NM)  In 2008, more than Kč ( Euro) was spended for management of these protected areas and habitats of protected plant and animal species (outside NR and NM):  Kč ( Euro): proper management of protected areas (mowing, grazing, woodcutting, marking the boundaries, implementation of additional enhancing measures, e.g. creating pools for amphibians, construction of fences against herbivores) and geodetic delineation of the boundaries (for the process of renewal of protected areas)  Kč (7 800 Euro): preparation of management plans for individual protected areas  Kč (5 800 Euro): management of habitats outside protected areas (transfers of protected animals, mowing, processing of ornithological data, intervention against succession)
