Hazardous Waste Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA) Issues by Quarter

Cumulative Satellite Accumulation Area Issues (FY Q1 ’12 – Q1 ‘15)

Significant Safety Achievements- 10/14 The chemical container/sample clean-out of the B62 (Kerr) lab areas continues. Another 500 containers were disposed in October. Started set-up of Work Planning and Control (WPC) projects/activities for EETD. An implementation plan has been developed. I have participated in review of the draft LBNL Electrical Safety Manual (ESM). Several draft Activity Hazard Documents (AHD) were generated for upcoming research projects including the permeation device in and chlorine gas use in The quarterly Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA) hazardous waste inspections of EETD lab areas was completed. The EETD Safety Committee meeting was held 10/2/14.

Short Term Safety Outlook- 11/14 Continue the set-up of the Work Planning and Control (WPC) “projects” and “activities” framework for EETD. The “Activity Manager” WPC system will go live effective 11/4/14. Follow-up on electrical equipment issues identified from EETD survey and Electrical Equipment Inspection Program. Continue work on implementation of an EETD-specific electrical safety program. This includes Qualified Electrical Workers and designated Electrical Safety Officer. Continue to address issues identified by the fire marshal in EETD buildings. Complete the flame resistant lab coat implementation. Assist with the set-up for new lab areas , /293 and B33 JCESR. Continue old chemical/sample clean-outs in , 246, 308, 310 and closet.
