Ovaries Main female reproductive organ producing hormones and egg cells

Oogenesis Creation of an ovum (egg cell) Creates 1 gamete

- primary oocyte unequally divided secondary oocyte fertilized 2nd division occurs generating a zygote 1 of the 4 haploid cells

Cervix Lower 1/3 of the uterus which extends into vagina.

Vagina Tubular organ that leads from uterus to the outside.

Hymen Thin membrane of connective tissue and stratified squamous that partially covers the vaginal opening.

External Genitalia -Vulva Parts that surround the vaginal opening

Labia Majora and Minora Majora: two outer lips that are covered by pubic hair Minora: the smaller (minor) inside pair of labia (lips) of the vulva.

Clitoris Small projection at the anterior end of the vulva between the labia minora. Contains glans and sensory nerve fibers

Vestibule Space enclosed by the labia minora. Consists of glands and vestibular bulb (erectile tissue).
