HSC Core 2 What is different and what support is out there?

What’s Different – Focus Questions Five focus questions down to four Deleted: How does the body respond to aerobic training?-prescreening, fitt, immediate responses How does training affect performance? How can psychology affect performance ? How can nutrition and recovery strategies affect performance? How does the acquisition of skill affect performance?

Focus Question 1 Four ‘learn about’ dot points down to three First dot point no change Second ‘learn about’ dot point includes anaerobic interval training as a method and asks for more analysis for learn to third ‘learn to’ now has reference only to resistance and aerobic not flexibility training Fourth learn about is added from previous syllabus and asks for application of training principles and method and effect on performance

Focus Question 2 Three dot points with minor change in learn to Learn to includes evaluate performance scenarios to determine the appropriate forms of motivation, eg golf versus boxing Podcast-research case studies of athletes from different sports and ascertain the nature of their motivation and the psychological strategies they employ.

HSC Core 2 Materials Podcast and assessment task FQ1-assess the relevance of the types of training and training methods for a variety of sports by asking questions such as:  which types of training are best suited to different sports?  which training method(s) would be most appropriate? Why?  how would this training affect performance? FQ3-research recovery strategies to discern their main features and proposed benefits to performance

HSC Core 2 Materials Podcast questions 1. Could you briefly give us some background to your participation in the sport of………. (ie. How long you have been playing, significant sporting achievements and your current level of play) 2. To reach the elite level in any sport training is obviously a significant and integral component to performance success. Could you describe a typical training week for you during the competition phase of your sport? 3. Depending on the nature of the sport being played, whether it is aerobic or anaerobic, a variety of training methods are employed by coaches with their athletes. Could you outline which methods are incorporated into your training? (Interviewer to draw out whether any of the following methods are utilised - continuous, Fartlek, interval, circuit, flexibility or strength training) Could you explain which training methods you enjoy the most and least?

HSC Core 2 Materials 4. Whether it is to enhance motivation or to manage anxiety, the role of sport psychology is becoming an increasingly important aspect of optimal performance in sport. What motivates you to continue performing and training in your sport? Outline the strategies you employ to manage any anxiety and prepare for performance. Are there professionals that you see for guidance in this aspect of your performance?

HSC Core 2 Materials 5. Apart from being in the right frame of mind and utilising effective training methods the body needs to have the correct fuel to physically perform at its peak. Athletes need to be mindful of their nutritional practices to ensure they perform and recover well. Outline what food you would consume and when: pre event during the event( if applicable) post event Explain your methods of fluid consumption? (how much, when, type) Who determines what you eat/drink and when?

HSC Core 2 Materials 6. The importance of adequately recovering after training sessions and events is an important factor so as to achieve the best possible performance on the sporting field. Could you discuss the strategies that you incorporate into your recovery and the reasoning behind there use? Who determines what you do? Cooling down and rehydrating are common physiological recovery strategies. Could you outline a typical cool down and hydration routine for your sport? Neural strategies such as hydrotherapy and massage as well as tissue damage strategies such as cryotherapy or the use of ice have become recovery methods that have been utilised by many athletes. Do you use these? Why/ why not? Post performance many athletes employ psychological strategies as part of there recovery, for example relaxation sessions. Are these part of your strategy? Why/why not?
