How to Change Tires on a Rim?
Presentation transcript:

HOW TO CHANGE A BIKE TIRE 101 BY: JOHN WILLIAMS:

Bike Pump Tire Levers You will need a bike pump and a set of tire levers.

First, unscrew the tip of the valve stem. Then, push the valve tip in so the tire deflates completely.

Next, unscrew the small nut that holds the valve stem in place until it is completely removed..

Now that the tire is entirely deflated pry the flat end of a tire lever under the tire. Hold that lever in place while prying another lever under the tire about three inches around the tire. As you hold the first lever in place slide the second lever completely around the tire circumference of the tire. This will free one side of the tire from the wheel.

With one side of the tire having been taken off the wheel it is easy to, by hand, take the other side of the tire off the wheel. Once both sides of the tire are off the wheel take the valve stem out of the hole in the wheel and remove both the inner tube and the tire.

With the old inner tube and tire removed from the wheel inflate the new inner tube slightly so it takes shape. Insert the inner tube’s valve stem through the hole in the wheel and thread the small nut back on to the valve stem to hold it in place.

With the new inner tube on the wheel it’s time to put on the new tire. Start by putting one side of the tire over the wheel and work your way around the wheel until the tire is completely on. At this point the tire will be hanging loosely on the wheel as the tire’s bead(the hard rubber edge of the tire that sits in the wheel) will not yet be seated in the wheel’s channel.

To seat the tire bead in the wheel channel start on one side of the wheel and use the palms of your hands and thumbs push the bead of the tire into the wheel’s channel. Once one side is done flip the wheel around and do same on the other side.

Once the tire is successfully on the wheel, pump up the tire, and put the wheel back on the bike. Note: These instructions are for reference purposes only. Consult the side of the tire to ascertain the exact tire pressure suggested by the manufacturer prior to inflation. Note: These instructions are for reference purposes only. Consult the manufacturer of any tire before inflation to ascertain the proper air pressure needed for that specific tire.
