Presentation transcript:

Strategic Business Management Pre-Approvals “Strategic Staffing for Today, Tomorrow and the Future” Why was this program rejected for Strategic Business Management Credit?

My Favorite HRCI Resources BOK – Quick Link Strategic Business Management Flier = There are many others!

Strategic Business Management Does the presentation center around one of the following? Interpreting internal info – financial, accounting, marketing, sales Interpreting external info – STEEPLE+I analysis (socio-cultural, technological, economic, ecological, political, legal and ethics + industry trends) Participate as contributing partner in the SP process Establish key relationships internally or externally Metrics Manage organizational Change Manage HR Budget consistent w/organization’s goals, objectives & values Developing policies & procedures

STOP Before submitting to HRCI first honestly answer: What is the major focus of this presentation? Will attendee leave with a greater understanding of the business macro environment? Will attendee be better able to “speak the language” of the C-suite? Will attendee return to their workplace with a greater value proposition organization wide?

Three Keys It is not about the title, it is about the content. Taking a strategic approach or developing a strategy does not qualify for strategic credit. Note: strategic business management programs are not always a senior level presentation. If topic is listed in another function area of the BOK, it is not strategic. The label “SPHR ONLY” does equate to strategic. The BOK and HRCI Resources are your best friends. Refer to them early and often. Learn them inside & out. Be proactive, work closely with Programs. Tell speakers what you are looking for. Don’t assume that PHR, SPHR or GPHR certified speakers understand HRCI requirements. Ascertain that they can provide what you need, anticipate potential pitfalls, reach out to your state certification director to review before submitting to HRCI. Allow plenty of time. Understand that HRCI is on your side. HRCI will also let you know if you submitted a Strategic program for General credit. If you do get a thumbs down, recognize that HRCI has a solemn duty to uphold the integrity of the AFC Program and work through it and if you are not successful, you will have at least gained the knowledge that will help you on the next one.

Thank-You! Lori S. Goldsmith, SPHR, GPHR Senior HR Business Partner, Tomlin Staffing
