Acid Concentrate Systems

Contents  System Design  External fill port  Storage Tanks  Transfer Pumps  Distribution System Gravity or Pumped  Green Credentials of an Acid Concentrate system  Typical savings

System Design - Components External Fill Port Acid Concentrate Storage Tank(s) Acid Transfer Pumps Acid Distribution System

System Design – External Fill Port External Fill Port – incorporating acid concentrate delivery pump needs to be situated in a location with good vehicle access. Can be located remotely from the acid concentrate storage tanks Enclosure should be secure and well labelled to prevent incorrect fluid delivery.

System Design – Acid Concentrate Storage Tanks Acid Concentrate Storage Tanks – need to be sized for enough storage for 2- 4 weeks supply depending on available deliveries. Tanks to incorporate enough “free board” to allow over delivery, Order 1000 litres you will pay for 1000 litres even if they can only deliver 600 litres. Tanks to include additional buffer to allow for delays in deliveries (e.g. adverse weather)

Typical Gravity Fed System – Royal London

Typical Pumped Acid Concentrate System

Green Credentials Reduced Acid Wastage – with a centralised acid concentrate system only the amount of acid for the treatment is drawn from the system. With the canisters typically 1 -2 litres is wasted per patient treatment. Reduced Solid Waist – Reduced amount of waist such as plastic canisters, cardboard boxes and pallets all to be disposed of or recycled. Lower waist collection charges. Manual Handling Issues – nursing staff and porters do not have to handle heavy boxes of canisters usually delivers on pallets. Reduced Storage Issues – Pallets of Acid concentrate extremely bulky have to stored within close proximity of ward

Green Credentials – Savings In Acid concentrate Acid Concentrate Usage – Typical 2O Station Renal Unit three shifts per day. Acid Concentrate Usage assuming 1.1litrs/ hour =264 litres /day = 68,640 litres/annum Acid Concentrate waist (5 litre containers) = 9360 litres /annum Cost of Acid put down drain assuming £3 per canister = £5,616/annum
