A Group of Immigrants at Ellis Island who, having failed to meet the Entrance Requirements, are about to be Deported. Harper's Weekly, Vol. L, No. 2573, issue date: April 14, 1906.
Identification Tags. Upon arrival at Ellis Island, all immigrants had identification tags pinned to their shoulders. The tags indicated the ship manifest page and line number on which the names appeared. An explanation of the tag was printed in 10 languages, including Swedish and Finnish.
