NASA HQ presentations This discussion, please focus on Watzin’s topics. Later today (11:35), we will discuss Bussey and Davis’ topics.

MEPAG Response to Proposed Program for 2020s Next Orbiter SAG NASA HQ has requested an analysis of the potential objectives for a 2022/24 multipurpose Mars orbiter.  We assume the mission has collective goals: Refresh infrastructure support (including telecommunications and landing site survey), Reconnaissance for science of special regions and other high-priority objectives as defined in the 2015 MEPAG Goals document, Resource identification in anticipation of future human missions to Mars, Technical demonstration (in orbit) of functions to support sample return and other future missions.  MEPAG is prepared to carry out this analysis. Charter for a HEO/SMD jointly sponsored SAG is in work. Will kickoff with Tiger Team to refine agenda and help with FY17 budget preparations. Anticipate formation of the full-SAG following LPSC. If interested, contact Rich Zurek and Serina Diniega.

MEPAG Response to Proposed Program for 2020s Human Science Objectives SAG NASA HQ has requested an analysis of the potential science objectives for a landed human mission on Mars. In particular: to assess how humans can be used to enhance science, estimate our level of scientific knowledge at time of landing, and characterize and prioritize the science goals.  MEPAG is prepared to carry out this analysis. Charter for a HEO/SMD jointly sponsored SAG is in final stages. Anticipate team formation in the next few weeks. Will provide input into HLS 2 (presented by B. Bussey/R. Davis).

Schedule MEPAG Goals Revisions 19 March: Poster at LPSC (Hamilton et al., abstract #2543) 20 March: Comments due ~1 May: Release of Final 2015 Goals Document Please provide written justification for any proposed changes. Vicky or or annotate a printed copy. 2/24/2015; 30th MEPAG Meeting 11 Mars Exploration Program Analysis Group (MEPAG), Goals Committee, 2015.
