MISSION STATEMENT The Kennesaw State University Compliance Office strives to provide a comprehensive compliance program with a focus on four general elements: rules education, policies and procedures, monitoring and self-reporting. This focus allows us to protect the integrity of the University, while fostering a culture of compliance and institutional control as required by the NCAA. Our visibility and availability are important aspects of providing a proactive approach as we assist the University, our student-athletes, institutional staff and donors/boosters in understanding the complex nature of NCAA rules.

Playing and Practice Seasons

Declared Season –  Hour Limitation  4 hours per day max Golf Practice Round Exception  20 hours per week

Declared Season –  Required day off per week Conference Championship Exception NCAA Championship Exception Travel Day may be used Vacation Period Exception Basketball Exception – 3 contests in a week

Declared Season –  Competition Day Count as 3 hours CARA Prohibited after competition  Except between contests or rounds during multiday or multievent competition (double- headers)  Preseason Practice Daily and weekly hours do not apply prior to first day of class or first scheduled contest  Vacation Periods: Daily and weekly hour limitations do not apply during official vacation period

Declared Season –  CARA Prohibited Between Midnight and 5am Exceptions  Participation in a conference or NCAA championship  Participation in competition that begins before midnight and concludes after midnight  Participation in a promotional practice activity (midnight madness)

Outside of Declared Season –  Weekly Hour Limitation:  8 hours per week No more than 2 hours of skill instruction 6 hours of strength and conditioning  CARA prohibited one week prior to beginning final exams  Required Two Days Off Per Week

Outside of Declared Season –  Skill Instruction:  September 15 – April 15 More than 4 student-athletes may participate  Prior to September 15 – After April 15 No more than 4 student-athletes at any one time  Equipment related to sport may not be used during conditioning activities

Outside of Declared Season –  No CARA During a Vacation Period:  Strength coaches may conduct workouts, provided student- athlete request workouts

Hour-Limitation Record –  Practice Logs:  Weekly logs submitted monthly via Jumpforward (Due the 5 th of every month)  S-As randomly selected to approve logs

CARA –  Countable:  Athletic Meetings  Review of Game Films  Meetings with Sports Psychologist  Visiting Competition Site in Cross Country and Golf  Anything with an athletic purpose

CARA –  Not Countable:  SA Initiated Meetings (No CARA)  Travel (as long as no CARA occurs)  Training Room Activities  Life Skills/Character Development Meetings (Habitudes)  Fund Raising/Community Service Activities

Voluntary activities –  All Conditions Must Be Met: Activity must not be required to report back to coach Activity must be initiated and requested by student-athlete Activity may not be recorded for purposes of reporting back to coaching staff Student-Athlete may not be subject to penalty if student-athlete elects not to participate

Voluntary activities  Coaching Staff Members May Not Be Present During Voluntary Activities  Exceptions: Safety Exception: Field events, jumping hurdles or jumping element of steeplechase Coach may provide safety and skill instruction but may not conduct the workout

This scenario satisfies Bylaw as the money used for recruiting is now under institutional control. Not doing it this way would cause a violation, as coaches may not use personal money for recruiting purposes

Use of Recruiting Funds NCAA member institutions should note that all funds for the recruitment of prospective student-athletes shall be deposited directly with the member institution, which shall be exclusively and entirely responsible for the manner in which such funds are expended. Therefore, it is not permissible for any outside organization or individual (e.g., recruiting or scouting service, event operator) to provide institutional coaching staff members with expenses (e.g., travel, lodging) to attend any event for recruiting purposes. Such expenses are considered funds donated for recruiting purposes and such funds must be deposited directly with the member institution, as opposed to being provided directly to an institutional coaching staff member(s). Further, any individual or organization that provides funds directly to the athletics department would be considered a representative of athletics interests and subject to all legislation applicable to that status (e.g., contact, telephone and evaluation restrictions).
