Presentation transcript:

Anne Frank Act 1 Critical Thinking p. 912

p. 912 #1 A.) Mr. Frank finds a scarf and a woman’s glove. B.) The glove is not explained; the scarf was a gift from Anne.

p. 912 #2 A.) The celebration is a reminder of their faith and a symbol of hope. B.) The gifts show that Anne is generous and resourceful. C.) Everyone is emotionally touched by their gifts – they have personal meaning.

p. 912 #4 A.) Mr. Frank is practical and direct in his reaction to the thief. Mr. VanDaan just wants to blame Peter for attracting attention. B.) (Could be similarities or differences). Anne is cheerful and imaginative; Mrs. Frank is prayerful and worried; Mr. Dussel is cross and annoyed.

Anne Frank Act 2 p a. Mr. Kraler says that one of his workers may suspect that the Franks are hiding in the Annex. 1b. This hints that the Annex residents will be discovered.

p a. Act II begins in January 1944 and ends with Mr. Frank’s visit in November b. The characters are thinner and more tense than in Act 1. Mrs. Frank lashed out at Mr. Van Daan for stealing food. 2c. (Many possible answers) As they are eating cake, Anne talks about the destruction of her ideals and hopes. (She has hints of negativity).

p. 956 #3 3a. She preserved her dignity by remaining optimistic, by creating a friendship with Peter, by insisting on preserving traditions, and by using her diary as a outlet for her fears, instead of attacking others. 3b. She believes that similarities matter most – that all people have good in them. Specific examples – Miep and Mr. Kraler. 3c. Mr. Frank is moved by his daughter’s faith that “people are really good at heart” – (a little ironic that she says this positive statement after the death of herself and most of her family – she wanted to be more than just herself)

Comparing Expository Texts p. 967 Coherent – makes sense; is logically organized; the reader can clearly understand it. – 1a = Both documents are coherent Website – logically presents basic info about the museum at the beginning of the reading. – History is chronological News Release – Begins answering 4 basic questions: Who? What? Where? When? – Then provides additional background information
