Presentation transcript:

 No eating or drinking on unit!  Remove PPE when leaving unit or going to supply room or bathroom  Excessive jewelry – carries germs not only patient to patient but home with you as well  Artificial fingernails including gels and acrylics all harbor germs. Proven in a NICU, nurses were transmitting infections. Germs get stuck on chipped nail polish too. General Facts

Wear a mask if you think you are getting sick. Masks must cover nose and mouth. If you sneeze or the mask gets damp – not effective anymore Separate refrigerators for meds and blood Don’t store food in the med refrigerator Anything dropped on the floor can’t be used for patients. Wait until the patient is gone before setting up for the next patient. When using 2 step cleaning/disinfecting process, can clean while patient is still in the chair but must wait until gone to disinfect. General Facts

 Do you know what “contact time” means? Know the contact time for the product you are using. An item must be wet/damp for 10 minutes when using bleach to clean and disinfect  Nothing in pockets! They are considered dirty  Clean stethoscope after listening to patient access  Have to put a glove on completely to touch a machine – like an alarm  Sanitizing gel must be at least 60% alcohol General Facts

 Patient focused care  PPE  Everyone is watching (and they should)  Safety – all around  Do unto others (what if you were sitting in that chair? Or your mom was)? Summary
