Periods One and Four Period One: Dates for Lesson Plan are Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23, 2014 Period Four: Date for Lesson Plan is Friday, May 23, 2014

Changes to Lesson Plan Due to the loss of time from the Keystones and the fact that they ran over, this lesson has been changed for everyone to try to keep all the classes together on the same pacing. Instead of doing the Pair/Triad Activity, we will be covering Japanese Militarism differently. So disregard what is in the typed lesson.

Quiet Question Collins Prompt Quiet Question: Type Two Prompt---You and your partner will be working with two different documents to answer the Reflection Questions. Document One: Timeline of Important Dates in Japan’s History Document Two: Excerpt From Lord Iwakura, an Ambassador Sent to Europe and USA a) Write TWO events from the timeline under the correct headings below. b)Referring to the excerpt, what did the emperor of Japan plan to do and why? Identify TWO different examples from your Japan and Imperialism Graphic Organizer Notes that support this. Plan/Reasoning: Example One Explained: Example Two Explained:

Changes to Lesson Plan Periods 1 and 4: Individual Work---You will be using the photocopied class set of the powerpoint and the textbook to read and complete the graphic organizer. Skip the following topics of the graphic organizer since it was covered in the last lesson: – Sino-Japanese War – Russo-Japanese War – Japanese Annexation of Korea 1910 – World War One

Changes to Lesson Plan Just complete the following graphic organizer topics. Whatever is not finished in class is part of your homework. – Interwar Years – Second Sino-Japanese War and Invasion of Manchuria from – War Atrocities with the Rape of Nanjing – World War Two

Changes to Lesson Plan Homework for Long Weekend: Continue to follow the chunking for the East Asia and Imperialism Propaganda Poster Summative Assessment. This is the last Summative Assessment for the fourth marking period. It is due on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

Periods Five, Six, and Seven Date your papers: Thursday, May 22, 2014 Friday, May 23, 2014

Day One: Thursday, May 22, 2014 Quiet Question: Type Two Prompt---You and your partner will be working with two different documents to answer the Reflection Questions.

Day One: Thursday, May 22, 2014 Class: As we saw from the last lesson and the two documents for today’s Quiet Question, Japan chose to become an imperialist power and not be conquered by the Western imperialists. They are the only country of all we have studied this year that chose this path. In this lesson, we will be examining the Japanese Militarism that developed from their response to imperialism. Class: Ms. Barben is going to read aloud the attached “Rise of Fascism in Japan” Reading. As she does, you should be doing Active Reading.

Change to Lesson Plan: Thursday, May 22, 2014 Instead of doing the Pair/Triad Activity, Ms. Barben is going to do a modified Powerpoint Lecture covering Japanese Militarism. Since some of the topics were covered in the Japan and Imperialism Lesson Plan, she will be skipping the following topics: – Sino-Japanese War – Russo-Japanese War – Japanese Annexation of Korea 1910 – World War One

Changes to Lesson Plan: Thursday, May 22, 2014 Class: Ms. Barben’s modified Japanese Militarism Powerpoint Lecture will cover only: – Interwar Years – Second Sino-Japanese War and Invasion of Manchuria from – War Atrocities with the Rape of Nanjing – World War Two Homework: Continue to follow the chunking for the East Asia and Imperialism Propaganda Poster Summative Assessment. – It is the last Summative Assessment for the fourth marking period. – It is due on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

Day Two: Friday, May 22, 2014 Class: Ms. Barben will finish her modified Japanese Militarism Powerpoint. Individual: Rest of class, use the identified textbook pages to add to your graphic organizer notes to fill in any gaps. Homework: Continue to follow the chunking for the East Asia and Imperialism Propaganda Poster due on Thursday, May 29, 2014.
