Alice in Wonderland Chapter 6: Pig and Pepper

Alice in Wonderland Setting: forest and the house Character: Alice: Curious, mediocre, prepare to enter adulthood, sympathy (human nature) Duchess: Violent Fishman & Frogman: Flat character Cheshire cat: Stands for curiosity (inspires Alice to think -> child to adult) Cook & Baby: Flat character [conflict]

Alice in Wonderland Plot: climax raising action denouement conflict ending setting Theme: Curiosity

Alice in Wonderland Conflict: 1) footman (Alice hides and shows up later) 2) pepper: the cook put too much pepper in the soup 3) Duchess nurses the baby rudely 4) Alice cares the baby, but when baby turned into a pig and ran away, Alice felt released.

Alice in Wonderland 5) Alice asked Cheshire Cat which way she should go  I don’t much care where.(Asking others’ opinion to look for sense of security) 6) “I don’t want to go among mad people”  She has already go among mad people. 7) Choose March Hare but regret later.

Violent: Shout “pig”. Chop of her head. Treat the baby rudely.

Alice in Wonderland Analysis: --- Archetypal criticism: 1) People need belongingness e.g. play croquet (everyone goes, so Alice wants to go) 2) Alice chose March Hare, however, she felt regret. (Human nature) 3) Alice felt fresh to the environment, meanwhile she felt fear as well. (show her curiosity)

Alice in Wonderland Quotes and more from this chapter: March hare & Hatter: got mad or gone crazy. Grin like a Cheshire cat : Wide smile P.63,L12- That depends a good deal on where you want to get to. It doesn’t matter…as long as I get somewhere. (finding herself-human nature)

Alice in Wonderland Interesting: cat disappeared slowly 1) for entertainment 2) show human nature of being against one another.

Alice in Wonderland Reflection: Wonder why it is named Pig and Pepper Show human natures: --- belongingness --- making choices ---- regret Imagination: Fantasy
