All About Nathan Hale Nathan Hale, born in Coventry, Conn., June 6, When but little more than twenty-one years old he was hanged, by order of General William Howe, as a spy, in the city of New York, on September 22, 1776.

Line of Work… He began his active life as a teacher in the public schools, and early in 1774 was a teacher at the Union Grammar School

Hale- The Spy! Nathan Hale joined the army. George Washington asked one of his colonels if someone would volunteer to cross enemy lines and spy. Hale volunteered. Hale was captured by the British and hanged on September 22, The British executioner asked if he had any final words, and he told him, "I only regret I have but one life to lose for my country."

All About George George Washington was born on February 11, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Washington first fought in the French and Indian War as a messenger and scout. He later was raised to a Lieutenant Colonel and had an unsuccessful early military career.

Young George Washington had no formal schooling but, as was common in Virginia at the time, was taught by his family and probably by tutors.

Washington the General Later he was unanimously elected as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. Easily defeat by Britain's General Howe throughout New York and New Jersey, Washington and his army retreated into Pennsylvania. On December 25, 1776, he crossed the Delaware River and captured Trenton, then on January 3 won at Princeton. After Howe took Philadelphia, Washington spent the winter at Valley Forge. George Washington had one last victory at Yorktown before the war ended.

After the establishment of Congress, Washington was elected as the first President of the United States.
