Thesis Statements Writing 1.1- Establish a controlling impression or coherent thesis that conveys a clear and distinctive perspective on the subject

Objective/ Target Students will compose thesis statements that clearly state their perspective and opinion on the topic and include three reasons that support their opinion.

Big Idea A thesis statement is the writer’s opinion on the topic. It must be written in the form of a statement. It should guide the entire essay.

More Thesis Information A coherent thesis holds a piece of writing together. Its purpose is to set forth the writer’s perspective on the subject at hand. A thesis statement should be powerful enough to guide the direction of the entire piece of writing.

Sample thesis statement #1 Topic of essay: body piercing/ tattoos for teens Opinion: teens should not be allowed to get tattoos or body piercings Reasons: 1.they may regret it later 2.it is only a trend 3.can cause infection or health problems
