My name’s Aleksandra Mońko. I’m 14 years old and I’m a student of second year at lower secondary school. I graduated from Primary School No. 5 in Ełk where I attended sports class.
My meeting with basketball was accidental. At first I wanted to practise volleyball but when I was in sports class I loved basketball so much that I can’t live without it. I’ve been practising basketball for five years and I don’t regret my decision. Thanks to basketball I’ve expanded group of my friends not only among my peers. I’ve met many coaches and I travel a lot nowadays. Why do you play basketball?
What has sport changed in your life? It’s changed my attitude to basketball. I’ve stopped to feel sorry for myself and I’ve begun to learn more. Sport gives me self- confidence and teaches me to think logically. I’m more independent and responsible now and I’m more sociable thanks to many contacts with people.
What is your biggest success? Basketball, as I have already said, improves fitness and teaches logical thinking. I think it’s worth to do any kind of sport. Basketball gives meaning to my life. It seems to me that my life would be boring without basketball. Why it’s worth to do sport and how would you like to encourage others? I play with local team now. I’m a player of “KKS Olsztyn” club too. When I was in sixth class at the minibasketball festival in Koszalin I was awarded 3rd Hope of Polish Basketball League for Women. My recent success was in Władysławowo while playing league match. I had scored 24 points and thanks to that a week later I played with junior – girls older than me.
Basketball is the most important thing in my life now. Apart from studying and trainings I don’t have time for anything else. What do you do besides this game? Thanks for your time. This interview was made by young basketballers and their coach Maria Wąsikiewicz.
