Line Calls: Base and Combination Alerts Whenever working in combination with another lineman, we will use line calls to alert who we are working with. Never pull a covered lineman with you, only uncovered linemen can work with a covered lineman. Ace, Deuce, and Trey are combination alerts which will take the combination against one down defender tracking a second level linebacker. Always keep your eyes on your linebackers, this allows you to track his movement.

BaseAce Lion Deuce Ace, Duece, and Trey mean combo between a down defender and linebacker Possible Deuce Base

l Near Ear is also known as a landmark l Block nearest ear of the down defender according to play call Where you place your helmet Base block to near ear on helmet of down defender l When making a “verbal alert call” Never pull a covered lineman with you

BaseAce Ram Trey

l Two adjacent blockers connect up on a combo with the 1 st level defender This track produces maximum push l Shoulders and hips along side each other No air between them Keep shoulders square l “Close the door” “Hippo” closes the door on the down defender Defender cannot split the combo or “open the door” Hip to Hip = Hippo With Your Partner Close the door to the down defender on all Combos

Phase Traps, Midline Phase 2 2-3’s “Take It Back” Schemes Veer, Speed, Counter Plays Phase 3 4-5’s “Part The Sea” ISO Plays Phase 4 6-7’s “Take It Out on Tracks” Stretch Phase 5 “Circle The Wagons” Bring The Scheme Around 47

0 – 1 = Trap Schemes (White, Black), Midline the 3 or 2 Tech. 2 – 3 = Take it Back Schemes (Read the 5 tech.) 4 – 5 = ISO Schemes “Part The Sea At The Point of Attack” 6 – 7 = Take It Out On Tracks (Backside Read) 8 – 9 = Bring The Blocking Scheme Around (Read the 9 Tech.)

The second digit and verbal tag dictates the blocking scheme, direction and read: 0 and 1 - Traps and Midline Plays 2 and 3 - Take the scheme back, QB reads the 5 Technique 4 and 5 - ISO Plays “Part The Sea” 6 and 7 – Drop Step “Out on Tracks” 8 and 9 - Bring the scheme around, QB reads the 9 technique “Circle The Wagons” Example: 12 Veer ( 1 option series, 2 direction, take it back, read the 5 technique)

Any play that ends with a 0 – 1 we are either running Guard, Tackle Trap or Midline. With any play ending with 0 – 1 we are going after the first defender on or past the Guard.
