General Safety Tips If it is raining, the best thing to do is to pull over. Even light showers sting hard on your face, highly reducing visibility. Wear a helmet with the visor closed so that the rain doesn't hit your eyes. However, in heavy rains, this will reduce your visibility further. The best thing to do is to stop and wait for the rain to cease before you resume driving. Watch your tires. If they are worn out, replace them at the earliest. Two-wheeler tires are generally not subject to hydroplaning as car tires are. However, smooth tires can easily skid upon sudden braking. During and after rainfall, your grip on the accelerator and clutch is generally reduced because the handles are wet, and so are your palms. Wipe the handles and dry your hands to increase your grip. The same goes for your footwear and the brakes. Wear shoes or sandals that will not slip off the footrest while braking or shifting gears. Keep maximum possible distance from other vehicles. Fast moving vehicles can spray water on you, leading to momentary lack of visibility (besides ruining your clothes).

General Safety Tips cont… Avoid following vehicles from directly behind. Not only does this increase the chances of you getting sprayed, it also poses a threat when these vehicles brake. With a longer braking distance due to wet roads, you might hit one from behind. On a two-wheeler, you will always bear the greater damage. Make sure your indicator lights and tail lights are working. Since you will be driving on the left edge of the road, you must make sure other motorists can see you taking right turns. Be extra wary of potholes and manholes. Riding on the left edge of waterlogged roads can be dangerous. See how the traffic in front of you is moving and try and keep to the shallow parts of the road. Slow down! The importance of watching your speed cannot be stressed upon enough. Overtaking other motorists, especially cars, on a rainy day is really not necessary, especially if you cannot see far ahead. And attempting moves like overtaking from the left, which is usually dangerous, can prove to be fatal on slippery roads.
