2 The Multi-dimensional Multiscale Parser algorithm | Leiria, 19/02/2009 The Multidimensional Multiscale Parser algorithm The MMP (Multidimensional Multiscale Parser) algorithm is a universal data compression algorithm based on multiscale recurrent pattern matching It uses a dictionary of patterns that is adaptively built while the input data is encoded. The dictionary is updated by the inclusion of concatenations (in a Lempel-Ziv fashion) of dilated/contracted versions of input blocks previously encoded. It is able to achieve good compression performances for a wide range of signal types.
