Luckily, my speed started to slow down the farther I went from the crash. Up until this point, things were happening so fast, I didn’t have time to think. However, now I realized how fortunate I was to have survived unscathed. My one concern now was how I was going to get home. I could see a gray object in the distance. I did not know what it was, but at this point it was my only choice. I started to swim toward it. As I got closer, I could see that it was some type of space station. Cheech’s Great Adventure My name is Cheech. One sunny afternoon, I decided to go exploring in the forest. I packed a picnic lunch and headed off. The tall trees kept the sunlight out, so the forest was as dark as night. After walking for awhile, I became tired and decided to stop for a drink of water and my picnic lunch. After eating, I looked around and realized I didn’t know where I was nor how to get home. “Oh no, I’m lost!” I cried. Instead of getting upset, I sat down and thought about what to do. I know, I thought, I’ll find the tallest tree in the forest and climb to the top. At the top of the tree I should be able to see the way home. I climbed the tallest tree I could find. The tree was taller than ten giraffes standing on top of each other. Sure enough, when I reached the top, I could see the way home. I quickly climbed down, and hurried towards home. Although I love adventure, it was getting late and I knew my family would be worried about me. I made it home just as my family was sitting down to dinner. “Where have you been?” my mom asked. “I was off exploring in the forest.” I explained. “Well, go and wash your hands,” my mother said. “Your hands are dirtier than pigs playing in the mud. You can tell us all about your adventure at dinner.” Click here to exit the story Click here to start againClick here to see activities The End

The tall trees kept the sunlight out, so the forest was as dark as night. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my foot. “Ouch,” I cried! I looked down, and there was a snake. I was scared. I tried to run away, but I couldn’t move my foot. The snake slithered away into the trees. My foot was throbbing, so I decided to sit down. After what seems like a long time a big bear came barreling down the path. I was frightened, but the bear stopped and asked if I needed help. “I do,” I exclaimed. “I was bitten by a snake, and now I’m having trouble walking.” “Don’t worry,” replied the bear. “I can help. I’ll carry you home.” I told the bear where I lived, and we started toward home. When we finally arrived, my foot was feeling much better. The tall trees kept the sunlight out, so the forest was as dark as night. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my foot. “Ouch,” I cried. I looked down, and there was a snake. I was scared. I tried to run away, but I couldn’t move my foot. “Hey, why did you step on me?” said the snake. “I’m sorry,” I replied. “I didn’t see you.” “It’s ok,” replied the snake. “I’m sorry I bit you. I was startled.” “It’s ok,” I replied. “But my foot is in a lot of pain, and I can’t walk”. “Don’t worry,” replied the snake. “I know a cure.” The snake slithered into the forest, and when she returned she was carrying a leaf. “Eat this,” she said. “You’ll feel much better.” I quickly ate the leaf, even though it tasted horrible and began to feel better within minutes. I thanked the snake and promised to be more careful about where I walked and hurried towards home. Although I love adventure, it was getting late and I knew my family would be worried about me. As I walked through the front door, I could hear my dad calling for me. “Max, where are you?” he said. “It’s time for bed. If you hurry up and brush your teeth we will have time to read a story.” “I want to read a story about an adventure in the forest.” I told my dad as I jumped into bed like a frog jumps into the water. “I have the perfect one right here,” he said and started to read. Cheech’s Great Adventure My name is Cheech. One sunny afternoon, I decided to go exploring in space. I packed some supplies in my rocket and blasted off like a racehorse out of the starting gate. Soon, I was out in orbit on target to arrive at Mars in a few hours. I decided to have a snack and take a nap. When I woke up a few hours later, I realized that I hadn’t landed on Mars like I was supposed to. In fact, I had no idea where I was. I was lost! The rocket’s navigation system must have broken. I looked out the window and saw a strange planet in the distance. The planet was bluer than a pool of sparking water. I switched off the automatic pilot and grabbed the controls. With a lot of skill and a little bit of luck, I managed to land the rocket on the strange planet. The planet was amazing. It appeared to be completely unpolluted. I thought it must be uninhabited until I saw a creature approaching. I said hello, and was surprised the creature was able to answer me in Spanish. Thank goodness I was learning how to speak in Spanish at school. I explained my situation, and the creature assured me that someone on the planet would be able to fix the navigation system for me. However they didn’t have many visitors, perhaps I would be interested in staying awhile. I thought that was a wonderful idea. “I’ll need to let my parent’s know where I am,” I said. “They must be starting to worry.” “No problem, we have a special telephone you can use,” the creature explained. I called home and told my mom I was going to be gone for a couple of weeks, but that I would have a great story to tell her when I saw her. The next I knew I was in my own bed and the alarm clock was buzzing. I turned off the alarm, but it took me a minute to realize that the whole adventure was just a dream. It had seemed so real. I picked up the radio, and tried to call home without success. I then tried to see if I could pick up any sort of signal at all. After several attempts, I connected to a strange voice. The voice was speaking a strange language I couldn’t understand. I turned on my translation program just in time to hear the alien ask if I needed help. “I do,” I exclaimed. “I’m lost.” “Don’t worry,” replied the alien. “I can help you. I know every inch of this solar system.” I told the alien where I was from and it gave me directions home. I thanked the alien and promised to look for it the next time I was in space. When I finally arrived home, I opened the front door just as my family was sitting down to dinner. “Where have you been?” my mom asked. “I was off exploring in space,” I explained. “Well, go and wash your hands,” my mother said. “Your hands are dirtier than pigs playing in the mud. You can tell us all about your adventure at dinner.” Click here to exit the story Click here to start againClick here to see activities The End

Surly someone there could help me. At the space station, astronauts were busy working. I walked up to one of them and told her what had happened. “Don’t worry,” she said. “I can fly you home.” I told her where I was from and we made it back to my house quickly.
