Longsuffering & Repentance  God’s Desire for Us

God’s Desire for Us  I Thessalonians 5:9-11 –  “For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ”

God’s Desire for Us  II Thessalonians 2:13-14 –  “because God from the beginning, chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth”

God’s Desire for Us  I Timothy 2:1-4 –  “who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”

God’s Desire for Us  Romans 5:8-10 –  “God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”

Longsuffering of God  Exodus 34:6 –  “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth.”

Longsuffering of God  Numbers 14:18 –  “The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression”

Longsuffering of God  Psalm 86:15 –  “But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth”

Longsuffering of God  Romans 2:4 –  “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?”

Our Response: Repentance  Matthew 3:1-2 –  John: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”  Matthew 4:17 –  Jesus: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Our Response: Repentance  Luke 13:3,5 –  “but unless you repent you will all likewise perish”  Luke 24:47 –  “repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations”

Our Response: Repentance  Acts 17:30 –  God “now commands all men everywhere to repent”  II Peter 3:9 –  “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance”

Conclusion  What a great God that we serve.  A God that is longsuffering, desiring that we be saved.  Yet, we must be willing to repent.  Changing our lives to reflect Christ  STOP sinning & START living for God

Conclusion  In the first gospel sermon Peter preached a message of salvation, he preached repentance,  Acts 2:37-38 – (37) “What shall we do?” (38) “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins”
