Computer Aided Design (CAD) Week 12 :: Calculating the Volume & Density of 3D Solid Models

Calculate the Volume of a 3D Object in AutoCAD AutoCAD automatically gives the volume for any 3D Object (from the following drop-down menus): TOOLS -> Inquiry -> Region/Mass Properties (and then click on the object to obtain the information for.) Note – “Union” separate extrusions/solids etc. to get the total volume firstly!!

Calculate the Weight of a 3D Object in AutoCAD Both the Volume and Density of a 3D object are required to obtain its Weight. Weight (g) = Volume (mm 3 ) X Density (g/mm) g = grams mm = millimeters

Example Weight Calculation :: Question Draw a Square 50mm x 50mm and Extrude it 50mm in AutoCAD. Obtain the volume of the Cube using AutoCAD. Assuming the Cube is made out of Brass having a Density of: 8500kg/m 3 Calculate the Weight of the Cube of Brass (g)

Example Weight Calculation :: Solution Total Volume (using AutoCAD) is: mm 3 Density is: 8500kg/m 3 Converting to g/mm = g/mm Weight (g) = mm X g/mm Weight = g
