At the end of the Lesson At the end of the Lesson:  Students should be able to know the difference between Stress and Intonation  Students should know the difference between Rising Intonation and Falling Intonation

1. INTONATION 2. STRESS

 the sound produced by rise and fall pitch

 the emphasis placed on the sound or syllable spoken most force fully in a word or phrase

Different methods of stress assignments  Disyllabic nouns- are stressed on the first syllable.  Disyllabic verbs- are stressed on the last syllable.

Disyllable NOUNS `master `teacher `preacher Disyllable VERB A`buse Be`have Re`tire

 the pitch increases over time

 statement ends with a falling pitch

 Recite the poem “Trees by: Joyce Kilmer”  Each group will have 5 members  Each group will be assigned to each paragraph

I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth's sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.

 On a one whole piece of paper. Write a poem and put the stress on each word and put the rising and fall intonation at the end of each line.
