Causes of WWII Review and Editorial Cartoon Assignment

Bellwork Please take out your notes from yesterday, “Origins of WWII Notes” Absent? Please copy them from another student.

Today’s Agenda 1) Editorial cartoons illustrating causes of WWII 2) Written response 3) Grade checks/conferences and passing back assignments

You Task Create an editorial cartoon that illustrates one of several causes of WWII. An editorial cartoon, also known as a political cartoon, is an illustration containing a commentary that usually relates to current events or personalities. An artist who draws such images is known as an editorial cartoonist. They typically combine artistic skill, hyperbole and satire in order to question authority and draw attention to corruption and other social ills.

Your Task Create an editorial cartoon that illustrates one or several causes of WWII ▫Aggressor nations (Germany, Italy, and Japan) and resentment over the Treaty of Versailles and seeking to expand territory. ▫Rise of dictator (in general) ▫Rise of Fascism ▫Economic turmoil/global depression/hyper inflation/printing money ▫Treaty of Versailles

Next Based on whichever cause of WWII you chose to illustrate, briefly explain how that led to the second world war. This should be 2-3 sentences.
