Remembrance Russell Thompson OBE Director Fundraising The Royal British Legion

Remembrance Vision ‘A nation that honours the memory of those in the Armed Forces who have fallen and given, and ensures that the debt to them and their families is recognised’

Remembrance Mission ‘To create the understanding of and the opportunity to remember those in the Armed Forces who have fallen and given’

Remembrance Challenges –Public perception that Remembrance Day is the primary/only Legion event –Draw-down of deployed Forces will reduce public awareness, priority of Remembrance –‘Remembrance’ is perceived to be only related to WWI/WWII, not recent/current conflicts

Remembrance Top initiatives –Develop and manage large and support small events –Build understanding and empathy across diverse audiences –Use National Memorial Arboretum and other sites to sustain Remembrance –Offer appropriate options to act on Remembrance

Remembrance Top initiatives –Develop additional UK-wide events and link to Remembrance Day, Mission –Build ‘local Remembrance event toolbox’ for supporters’ use –Develop initiative to remember fallen from recent operations
