Intermediate Schools WORKS TO PROVIDE EDUCATION, WORK, AND SOCIAL SKILLS THAT ARE ESSENTIAL TO SURVIVE IN THE WORLD Mental Health ASSUMES The “gatekeeper” ROLE PRIMARILY AFTER GRADUATION FROM BISD ADAPT IS A PROVIDER THAT PINES CONTRACTS WITH TO PROVIDE AN ARRAY OF SERVICES – primarily after BISD services end.

ADAPT IS A NON-PROFIT AGENCY THAT WAS CREATED IN 1975 TO PROVIDE SERVICES TO THE HANDICAPPED. ADAPT CURRENTLY HAS 250 EMPLOYEES AND AN ANNUAL OPERATING BUDGET OF $8,500,000. WE PROVIDE SERVICES IN BRANCH AND ST. JOSEPH COUNTIES.

MONEY – THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND IT….. Housing does cost money and income does have an influence on where individuals choose to live and where parents choose to have their children live. The various housing options just shown involve various costs, generally if an individual is on SSI the receive between $675 (if independent) and $831 (if in foster care) Always, but especially in these economic times this money can impact choices for consumers if families are struggling financially.

EMPLOYMENT “self-worth” ADAPT HAS AN ACTIVE SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM AND SHELTERED WORKSHOP THAT OFFERS JOBS, TRAINING, SUPERVISION, AND FOLLOW-UP. WE CURRENTLY HAVE 48 CONSUMERS PLACED IN COMMUNITY. An additional 30 WHO HAVE EMPLOYMENT AT THE SHELTERED WORKSHOP, AND WORK OPPORTUNITIES FOR 50 DAY SERVICES CONSUMERS. LAST YEAR ADAPT PAID CONSUMERS $313,000 FOR WORK.

THE PROGRAM RUNS M-F AND, BASED ON AN ASSESSMENT, CONSUMERS ARE AUTHORIZED TO ATTEND BETWEEN 1-4 DAYS PER WEEK. THERE IS NO CHARGE TO ATTEND AND THE BATA BUS SYSTEM PROVIDES TRANSPORTATION.
