Making an afikomen holder

Today we will make a afikomen holder!

What is an afikomen?

It is the half-piece of matzoh that becomes the dessert at your passover seder

What do we need an afikomen holder for?

We will use weaving to make our afikomen holder

Are you wearing something that is woven?

Hats Many things we wear are woven Fabric Shoes

Many things we use everyday are woven Gloves Rugs Baskets

A weaving is made by interlacing materials together

Interlacing means one piece over and one piece under

One piece is called the warp.

The other is called the weft.

Weaving has been used for many thousands of years all over the world

Why have people been weaving for so long?

Weaving makes things strong and sturdy, that can last a long time.

This shoe was woven 10,000 years ago!

These baskets are very strong.

Weaving can also be beautiful!

This rug is over 200 years old and many people have walked on it.

Today we will be weavers!

Today we will weave an afikomen holder!

We will weave our afikomen holder using recycled cardboard, felt and glue.

Here is how your finished afikomen holder may look!

Let’s weave an afikomen holder!
