A. The Ark of the Covenant. Exo. 25:10-16 B. The Mercy Seat. Exo. 25: The Scriptural Specifications: a.As for the Ark above. b.The Mercy Seat was a Cover upon the Ark, of the same length and breadth. It was of pure gold and at either end were cherubim, beaten out of one piece with it. They had their wings overshadowing the Mercy Seat and their faces looking down upon it. It sets forth Christ as the Meeting Place between Man and God.

It covers…  The Table of the Law – A Reminder of the Golden Calf Apostasy.  The Pot of Manna – A Reminder of Murmuring and Unbelief.  Aaron’s Rod – A Reminder of the Rebellion against God’s chosen priests.  It is a Seat – a Throne of Grace and Mercy. Heb. 4:16 cf. I Sam. 4:4  It is a Place of Meeting. Exo. 30:6; 25:22 - Christ, the Meeting Place.II Cor. 5:17, 19

d. The Connection between the Mercy Seat and the Altar. Exo. 25:22 i.The Height of the Mercy Seat (25:10) was the height at which the animals were sacrificed on the Altar. ii.On Atonement Day, the fire for the sweet incense to cover the Mercy Seat came from the Altar. iii.The Blood sprinkled from the Mercy Seat came from the Sacrifice on the Altar. iv.The Blood was sprinkled ON the Mercy Seat eastward once and BEFORE the Mercy Seat seven times. Conclusion: All believers in Christ can approach the Throne of Grace to obtain mercy and grace in time of need. Exo. 27:1, 5 Lev. 16:12, 13 Lev. 16:14 Heb. 4:16; 9:6-15

Con.: All believers in Christ can approach the Throne of Grace to obtain mercy and grace in time of need. Heb.4:16 The veil is rent, lo! Jesus stands Before the throne of grace; And clouds of incense from His hands Fill all that glorious place. His precious blood sprinkled there, Before and on the throne; And His own wounds in heaven declare His work on earth is done. Within the holiest of all, Cleansed by His precious blood, Before Thy throne Thy children fall, And worship Thee our God.
