Instructional Technology Integration Preparing students for success in a dynamic global society

Then to Now… Changing and Adapting to Learning Styles that our students have taken hold of through the use of technology. The Evolution of Classroom Technology

c – Chalkboard Still going strong to this day, although now we often see a Whiteboard with markers…the chalkboard is one of the biggest inventions in terms of educational technology. THEN

Interactive Whiteboard The chalkboard got a facelift with the whiteboard, that turned into a more interactive system that uses a touch-sensitive white screen, a projector, and a computer. Still getting slowly rolled out to classrooms right now… NOW

c – School Slate Used throughout the 19th century in nearly all classrooms, a Boston school superintendent in 1870 described the slate as being “if the result of the work should, at any time, be found infelicitous, a sponge will readily banish from the slate all disheartening recollections, and leave it free for new attempts.” THEN

Apple iPad Just like the original school slate, could the iPad bring Thomas Edison’s statement to life? Could the iPad make it so “scholars will soon be instructed through the eye.” Only time will tell. NOW

c – Educational Television By the early sixties, there were more than 50 channels of TV which included educational programming that aired across the country. One-way communication. THEN

Videoconferencing Two-way communication! This 4 th grade class is using Skype with one their classmates who moved to England for 6 months. One of many examples where our students are connecting with students and experts throughout the world. NOW

1980 – Plato Computer Public schools in the U.S. averaged about one computer for every 92 students in The Plato was one of the most-used early computers to gain a foothold in the education market. Currently, there is about one computer for every 4 students. THEN

Desktop Computer Our computers today allow students to utilize a variety of tools and resources through software, the internet and their own critical thinking skills. NOW

 We are educators that specialize in learning, using, teaching, evaluating and educating with technology  Through collaboration, development and modeling, we connect with teachers, administrators, staff and students  Our goal is to use technology tools to create rich learning environments for our students. Who are We?

 Through a variety of tools, hardware, software, web based technology, technical support staff we are able to reach throughout the district and engage learning with technology.  Here are a few examples… How do we support everyone?

 Hardware Hardware -Videoconferencing (Polycom) -SMARTBoards -Scanners -iPads -Video Cameras (i.e., flip cams, JVC) -Still Cameras -Electronic Drawing Tablets -SMART Airliner Slates -Document cameras -Digital Microscopes -Senteo response system
