Childhood. First I will talk about his Childhood. Abraham Lincoln existed on February 12, 1809 born in Hardin County, Kentucky. After seven years Abraham Lincoln ’ s family moved to Indiana in 1816 and he lived the rest of his youth there. His mother died after nine years, him and his stepmother remained very close also his stepmother urged him to read. Then he moved to Illinois in his early 20 ’ s. He started splitting rails because he got bored being a farmer when he got there.

Family The first person in his family that I will talk about is Thomas Lincoln (Abraham’s Father) was a farmer from Kentucky, and married Nancy Hanks (Abraham’s birth mother) on June 12 th 1806 and had three children Sarah, Abraham, and Thomas, who died as a child. In 1818 Nancy died by milk sickness, so Thomas married Sarah Bush Johnston. The next person that I will talk about is Mary Todd Lincoln (Abraham’s Wife). She was born on December 13 th 1818 with a wealthy family background in Kentucky. She got a large amount of education and lived a comfortable lifestyle. When she married Abraham her family disagreed with her choice because of his less wealthy background, however she loved him because ‘’There never existed a more loving and loyal husband.

16 th president On November 6, 1860, Lincoln was elected the 16 th president of the United states, beating Democrat Stephan A. Douglas, John C. Breckinridge of the Southern Democrats, and John Bell of the new Constitutional Union Party. Turned out 82.2 percent, with Lincoln winning the free Northern states, as well as California and Oregon. Douglas won Missouri, and split New Jersey with Lincoln. Bell won Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky, and Breckinridge won the rest of the South. Although Lincoln won only a plurality or the popular vote, his victory in the electoral college was decisive: Lincoln had 180 and his opponents combined to support the same slate of electors in New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, but even if the anti- Lincoln vote had been combined in every state, Lincoln still would have won a majority in the Electoral College.

John Brown Raided Harper’s Ferry led up to the civil The first one was John Brown Raided Harper’s Ferry. Because John brown was a radical abolitionist who had been concerned in anti-slavery violence in Kansas. On October 16, 1859, he led a group of seventeen including five black people to raid the arsenal found in Harper’s Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia). His goal was to start a slave uprising using the captured weapons. However, after taking several buildings, Brown and his men were surrounded and in time killed or taken by troops led by Colonel Robert E. Lee. Brown was trialed and hanged for treason.

Another thing that caused the civil war was Abraham Lincoln becoming president Another one was when he became president. California and six other states left the union after the election of Lincoln. California warned Abraham Lincoln that they would leave the Union if he one. He agreed with the Republican Party that the south was getting too powerful and made it part of their platform that slavery would not be given extra states and territories.

Smartness One way he was smart was he wrote the Gettysburg Address. Another way he was smart was that he didn’t think slavery was right.

His death Lincoln’s bodyguard John Parker left the Ford’s Theater during intermission. The now unprotected president sat in his slate box in the balcony. About 10:13 p.m. Booth crept up from behind aimed at the back of the head and fired.
