OCR Cambridge Award/Certificate in Maths Entry Level 1 – Level 2

Using measure and time Entry Level – Compare and order Entry Level – Time and date formats and simple money calculations Entry Level – Read and measure time, distance, weight, capacity, lengths and temperature Level – Read and calculate units of measurement and time Level – Using formula for shape, space and measurement conversions

You might not think you need numbers, but… Think about planning a new bedroom?

You might not think you need numbers, but… Knowing which measuring tool to use and which units to use will help! What is the length and width of the room? Think about planning a new bedroom?

You might not think you need numbers, but… It would not be good if you didn’t buy enough paint! Think about planning a new bedroom? How many litres of paint should you buy?

You might not think you need numbers, but… Which bed should you get? If you measure your room in inches and buy a bed measured in centimetres it could be awkward! Think about planning a new bedroom?

You might not think you need numbers, but… Which type of shelf should you get? If the shelf you buy cannot hold the weight of the books on it, you could be in for a shock! Think about planning a new bedroom

You might not think you need numbers, but… What about curtains? If you mix up mm, cm and m, it may look like they have shrunk in the wash! Think about planning a new bedroom

You might not think you need numbers, but… What about a trip to the country?

You might not think you need numbers, but… How long is the journey? What about a trip to the country?

You might not think you need numbers, but… How many gallons will you need for the journey? What about a trip to the country? If your car will do 50 mpg and you put 50 litres in will it get you there?

You might not think you need numbers, but… When you get there, how long will the walk take? You don’t want to be walking for 8 hours when you thought the route was only 1000m not 100km! What about a trip to the country?

You might not think you need numbers, but… Have you pumped the tyres up correctly? If you can’t read the chart in the garage and the gauge on the tyre pump, you may be in for a shock! What about a trip to the country?

You might not think you need numbers, but… Do you visit the gym?

You might not think you need numbers, but… How much should you lift? It’s best if you don’t get your lbs mixed up with your kgs! Do you visit the gym?

You might not think you need numbers, but… They say you should drink 2l of water an hour while working out This is not the time to get confused with millilitres and litres! Do you visit the gym?

You might not think you need numbers, but… If you use the running machine and want to try a marathon You might break the world record if you get your kilometres and miles confused! Do you visit the gym?

Many of the things we do involve numbers Understanding numbers better could make the things you do much easier You won’t get that lovely bedroom if you can’t work with measurements!

Many of the things we do involve numbers Understanding numbers better could make the things you do much easier You won’t enjoy that trip in the country without having a good understanding of measurements!

Many of the things we do involve numbers Understanding numbers better could make the things you do much easier You will not get that toned body if you are confused with weights and measures!

What will you cover... This presentation just concentrates on Using Measure and Time, but you may also look at other maths skills you will need to be successful as well This helps you understand how each skill is used together with other skills, and helps you use your maths skills in everyday life
