POLISH HISTORY - Mieszko I and Boleslaw Chrobry -The capital of Poland

MIESZKO I In thé 10th century, east of the Odra river lay the duchy of the Polanie whose ruler was Mieszko. Mieszko was baptized together with his court and his suite. By doing this, he joined his state to the groupe of Christian countries and, as such, considered civiliezed. In 967 Mieszko concuered Western Pomevania, and during the years took control of Silesia and Krakow, thereby uniting the majority of polish lands.

Boleslaw Chrobry Mieszkos work was continued by his oldest son, Boleslaw the Brave one of the most distinguished European figures of the day. In the year 1000 he made an agreement with OttoIII, but after his death was forced to wage war with his successor, Henryk II.

The king In 1018 Boleslaw the Brave invaded Kiev and placed Svatopolk on the throne. He annexed disputed lands on the San, Wieprz, and Bug rivers, by which he marked a second and east ward- bound direction of territorial expansion. In 1025 he was the first Polish ruler to receive a royal crown,and he die in the same year.

The capital The first capital of Poland was Gniezno, the second was Krakow and the third is Warszawa.It was the king Zygmunt III Waza who moved the capital from Krakow to Warszawa in the 1596.
