SENTENCE PATTERN CLUES Only nouns (or pronouns) can be owned. If something is owned it is a NOUN (or pronoun). Even if in most other sentences or in the dictionary the word would be listed as another part of speech, if it is being owned in the sentence you are analyzing, it is a NOUN!

SENTENCE PATTERN CLUES Only nouns (or pronouns) can be counted. Even if in most other sentences or in the dictionary the word would be listed as another part of speech, if it is being counted in the sentence analyzing, it is a NOUN!

SENTENCE PATTERN CLUES The presence of an ARTICLE ADJECTIVE ( A, AN OR THE) tells the reader one of the next couple of words will be a noun. Example: Joey carried the bag with the groceries, into the kitchen. I needed an hour to accomplish a very important task before I went to the game. There is never a verb between an article adjective and its noun. ARTICLE ADJECTIVES

SENTENCE PATTERN CLUES A PREPOSITION A noun is always the last word in a prepositional phrase. THEREFORE, a preposition tells the reader that one of the next words will be a noun or pronoun. EX: Under the box, in the book, by Susie, in March There is never a verb between a preposition and its noun.

SUFFIX CLUES: THE FOLLOWING SUFFIXES ARE A CLUE THAT THE WORD IS ACTING AS A NOUN SUFFIXNOUN EXAMPLE -tioninformation -siontension -mentachievement, argument -istarcheologist -ismhypnotism -itysincerity -ologyarcheology -escenceadolesence
