Foundation Statements Foundation Statements in the Creative Arts set out a clear picture of the knowledge, skills and understandings that each student should develop at each stage of learning. They encompass syllabus outcomes, content and scope of learning in Creative Arts. The Creative Arts Foundation Statements now replace Stage Statements in the Creative Arts K-6 Syllabus.

The Creative Arts K-6 Syllabus is organised in two main sections: Outcomes for each artform from Early Stage 1 to Stage 3 Content for each artform from Early Stage 1 to Stage 3

The syllabus provides information on the scope of each artform, suggesting how content may be investigated over time in different and more complex ways.

Dance Performing Composing Appreciating

In Dance, students develop knowledge and understanding, skills, values and attitudes in performing, composing and appreciating by engaging with the elements of dance through a range of contexts.

Drama Making Performing Appreciating

In Drama, students develop knowledge and understanding, skills, values and attitudes in making, performing and appreciating by engaging in role, dramatic contexts, elements and forms.

Music Performing Organising Sound Listening

In Music, students develop knowledge and understanding, skills, values and attitudes in performing, organising sound and listening, by experiencing the musical concepts within a wide range of repertoire.

Visual Arts Making Appreciating

In Visual Arts students develop knowledge and understanding, skills, values and attitudes in making and appreciating by engaging with subject matter and use of expressive forms.

What parts of the syllabus do you draw on to inform your teaching? Foundation Statements guide planning and programming for each artform and provide a basis for assessing, reporting and discussing student progress. Outcomes and indicators for each artform identify knowledge and understanding and skills that students will demonstrate as they engage with content. Content outlines what students will learn to do and learn about in each artform.
