Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 2 An interlock system shall be implemented in the Antenna and in the transporter to avoid hazardous situations and to allow safe maintenance operations. Each interlock source shall provide a pair of potential-free contacts and its status shall be monitored, but not controlled, by the Antenna Control Unit and Transporter control system. INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 3 All the interlock source contacts shall be series connected to form an interlock chain controlling the power supply to the interlocked subsystem and the brakes (if any) associated to that subsystem. INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 4 In order to allow safe transport operation and to avoid any simultaneous movement of the Antenna and the Transporter, the following interlock strategy shall be implemented: INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page A selective interlock shall be activated when the Antenna is powered from the transporter to inhibit all the moving functions (Elevation, Subreflector) except the Azimuth axis. Under this condition it shall be still possible to move the Azimuth axis by means of the Portable Control Unit. INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page The Antenna interlock chain shall accept a potential-free pair of contacts (are they really contacts or the meaning is terminals ?) coming from the Transporter, so that the Transporter can interlock the whole Antenna (including the Azimuth axis) opening the contacts when the Antenna is powered from the transporter. INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page The Antenna interlock chain shall provide a potential-free pair of contacts (or terminals ?) to interlock the Transporter, opening the contacts while the whole Antenna is not interlocked. INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 8 - The contacts shall be closed when the antenna is safe to be moved by the transporter. Necessary conditions shall be: o Elevation drive in zenith position and blocked. o Azimuth drive blocked. o All electrical connections to the antenna station disconnected with loose cable ends secured in dummy socket outlets in the antenna base. o Any other conditions required for safe transportation INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 9 - The transporter interlock chain shall accept a potential-free pair of contacts coming from the Antenna, so that the Antenna can interlock the whole Transporter (including the driving functions) opening the contacts when Antenna is moving the azimuth axis. INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 10 The interlock cable shall also connect the emergency stop systems of the antenna and the transporter. When connected, actuation of an emergency stop button on the antenna shall issue an emergency stop on the transporter and vice versa. INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 11 Both, the antenna and transporter shall provide minimum 4 contacts (again contacts or terminals ?) for emergency stop system connection INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 12 A cable routed in parallel to the power supply cable shall be supplied by the transporter contractor, connector type t.b.d. INTERLOCKS

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 14 1.Zenith Positioning. INTERLOCKS WAW - WAWF LOADING Where are we ? What are we waiting for ? We are waiting for the zenith sensor, but we can use also use the EL stow pins. 90° centering and pin inserted can be combined to form the Zenith. So we will have a KZ (Zenith Relay) in our interlocks.

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 15 2) Disconnect from the power grid. 3) Connect Antenna Cables in the dummy sockets. 4) Connect Transporter cable to the antenna. INTERLOCKS WAW - WAWF LOADING Where are we ? What are we waiting for ? At this point we are waiting for the power supply from the generator, so we will monitor the voltage with a relay (KA) transporter from inside the antenna so we know when is supplied. This is the KD relay monitoring the dummy socket just too know when the cable are tied up and ready to move the antenna without damaging them.

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 16 INTERLOCKS WAW - WAWF LOADING Where are we ? What are we waiting for ? Then this is our first interlock for the transporter (From the antenna to the transporter) Without all the 3 contacts close transporter should not move the hoist or arms. Suggested an override on the transporter side in case of fault blocking the lifting and landing of the antenna once it has been hook-up.

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 17 INTERLOCKS WAW - WAWF LOADING Where are we ? What are we waiting for ? This is signal we are waiting from the transporter (from the transporter to the antenna). It should close a dry contact between those terminals when the antenna is fully loaded onto the transporter in order to understand when switch off the engine and start it up again after the loading/unloading operation is completed.

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 18 INTERLOCKS WAW - WAWF LOADING Where are we ? What are we waiting for ? This interlock is from the antenna to the transporter. It is used to start and stop the engine. Once the Antenna is supplied by the transporter the KA is energized opening the loop with the engine, but the engine must restart once the antenna is still connected (KA) and loaded (KL)

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 19 INTERLOCKS WAW - WAWF LOADING Where are we ? What are we waiting for ? This is used to stop Elevation and Sub Reflector Mechanism once the antenna is connected and supplied from the transporter

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 20 INTERLOCKS WAW - WAWF LOADING Where are we ? What are we waiting for ? Now to proceed for the AZ interlock. First of all it’s working only if the antenna is hooked-up to the transporter and it’s loading or unloading. It means that AZ will stop to work once the antenna is fully loaded. But the AZ must work also when the antenna it’s not linked to the transporter so we have a NC contact to by- pass the series. The antenna is giving a contact to the transporter when the AZ is moving, but only if hooked-up.

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 21 INTERLOCKS Emergency Stops Both, the antenna and transporter shall provide minimum 4 contacts (again contacts or terminals ?) for emergency stop system connection This means that once connected Antenna and Transporter are an unique machine, but must work as separated machines once they are disconnected.

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 23 INTERLOCKS Emergency Stops This is more or less the drawing about the emergency stops. Both Antenna and Transporter must have caps on the interlocks socket (or Plugs) in order the bridge the signals once they are disconnected one form each other.

Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 24 INTERLOCKS Pins & Connector Counting the neccessary pins on the connector we have: Interlocks : 8 pins E-Stops : 10 pins Spares The indicated connector ITT MIL-C #16 does not fit because the number of pins are 10 with are missing 8.
