 Pavement Replacement  Remove 14” of existing surfacing  Fly ash treat 6” of subgrade  Place 7” of asphalt resulting in a 7” decrease in grade.  Final surface is 28’ wide  12’ lanes & 2’ shoulders w/1’ rumble strips

 Announced in August by AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) that the K-23 Practical Improvement project was selected as a regional winner in the innovative management, small project category of 2011 “America’s Transportation Award  Top 10 Finalist for 2 Final Awards – Grand Prize and Peoples’ Choice  Finished 3 rd in People’s Choice

Project Details  Project length – From Russell Springs to US-40, approximately 11 miles.  Project scope – Pavement replacement with new paved shoulders and edge-line rumble strips, using practical improvement methods. – saving $6 million dollars.  Remove 12” of pavement and sub-grade, fly ash treating 4 inches of soil and millings, then place 6 inches of new asphalt.  Result is a 26 foot roadway.  Road will be closed for 105 days.

Project Details  Project length – From Hoxie to the US-83 Jct. -19 miles  Project scope – Pavement replacement with new paved shoulders and edge-line rumble strips, using practical improvement methods. – saving $21 million dollars.  Remove 19.5” of pavement and sub-grade, fly ash treating 4 inches of soil and millings, then place 8.5 inches of new asphalt.  Result is a 28 foot roadway.

 Mix Designations  4” SR-19A(58-28) with 25% RAP  3” SR-19A(64-28) with 15% RAP  1.5” SR-12.5A(64-28) with 15% RAP  SR-12.5 required Va=3.0%  AC= 4.9%
