Epi-Surveillance

The goals of the National Strategy: Stop the transmission of the virus through scaling up of effective, evidence-based outbreak control measures Prevent the export of EVD through strengthening epidemic preparedness and response measures

Five Pillars of National Strategy: 1.Mitigation Measures 2.Surveillance: Enhanced efforts to achieve timely and accurate situational awareness of how the disease is evolving and the impact on critical sectors to inform policy and operational decisions 3.Procuring Medications 4.Communication and Education 5.Restoration and Strengthening Essential Health Care Services

Epi-Surveillance aims to Strengthen: Early detection Reporting Referral of cases Contact tracing Laboratory confirmation

Counties Case Investigation Form Contact Tracing Labs ETUs County Health Office MoHSW Burial Data Special Investigati ons Updated Liberia.xls Nerve Center SitReps ETU & Lab Focal Spreadshe ets MAPPING Cumulative Burial Focal HCW & Survivors County Sitrep (Tally) Excel line list for VHF Contact tracing record VHF Ma p Graph Sitrep.pdf Communities

Immediate Actions Advise on current trend Case hunting ( establish “War Room”) Distribute “positives” by county & communities Aggressively follow up with counties Migrate VHF to DHIS2 Support Montserrado to set-up “EOC” Put case investigators & data focal in each ETU

Lessons Learnt Don’t wait for the Calvary to arrive; start working The operational level is the county Beware of multiple & duplicate “solutions” Collaboration is key Montserrado is special; one size will not fit
