Connecting Speaker Level Outputs to Harman Amplifiers

Line Level Output  Signal (+) is carried on the center conductor of the RCA plug  Ground (reference) is carried on the RCA shield. This ground is the same as chassis ground on the output of the radio.  The typical maximum output voltage of the radio’s line level output is <2.8V RMS 0v (signal -) Signal (signal +)

Speaker Level Output  Signal (+) is carried on the + speaker wire  Signal (-) is carried on the – speaker wire  There is no signal connection to ground  Both speaker wires will show +6V DC to chassis ground.  Some low-level signals from OE systems (input to the OE amplifier) may be configured this way.  Speaker level outputs have a maximum voltage of 8.4V  Speaker level outputs are about 10dB “hotter” than the best line- level outputs. (2x voltage = 6dB) Signal (signal -) 6v Signal (signal +) 0V 12V

Connecting Speaker Level Output to MS and GTO-EZ Amplifiers  Attach the included RCA-to- bare-wire adapters to the speaker output leads from the radio.  Be sure to connect them in correct polarity.  Plug the adapters into the amplifier.  Follow the instructions in the owner’s manual for input sensitivity setting with the included setup CD.

Connecting Speaker Level Output to Reference, Kappa, GTO and GT amplifiers

Front Left - Front Left + Front Right - Front Right + Repeat for Rear Speaker Level Outputs Use only insulated RCA ends! 6V DC will be present on the shield connector! Do not allow shield to touch chassis ground! Speaker Level Output

Making the Adapters  Get an old or cheap RCA cable  Cut off one end  Strip away the outer insulation to reveal the two conductors inside  Strip away the insulation from the two conductors  Use your ohm meter to test continuity between the conductors and the ends of the RCA plug  Solder the inner conductors to the speaker outputs of the radio and use shrink tube to insulate
