L. Di Matteo. (2014, May 1). Canadian manufacturing employment: growth and decline. Retrieved from employment-growth-and-decline-but-more-decline-than-growth.html

Video Clip Will Globalization Kill Canadian Manufacturing? Terminology: GDP = 'Gross Domestic Product ' The monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country's borders in a specific time period (GDP is usually calculated annually basis).

Case Study: A look at General Motors With a partner, read pages (GM Canada case study) and answer the following questions: 1. How has the automotive industry affected economics and unemployment in Canada? 2. How does GM use the business practice of outsourcing? 3. How has this altered employment patterns in both developed and developing countries? 4. How do multinational corporations like GM drive globalization?

Investigate the Disappearing Canadian Manufacturing Sector Each group will investigate one of the following companies: Heinz in Leamington, ON, Kellogg in London, ON, Navistar in Chatham, ON, Caterpillar in London, ON, Ford in Oakville, ON. Search online to find out: Where did the company move its jobs? What are the advantages/disadvantages? What additional questions did you explore? Find evidence to report back to the class.

Reflective Journal/Time capsule Now that you have seen different aspects of globalization (e.g. multinational corporations, Shipbreaking, trade in hbp, effect on Canadian manufacturing, theoretical perspectives, etc.) write a journal critically analyzing what you have learned and connecting it to your own life. How has learning about globalization changed the way you see the world? How do you think globalization will affect you, your family and Canadian society in the future? (I will photocopy these and give them back to you tomorrow.)
