The Qur’aan is one of the Books of Allaah and His Word Quraan 101 – 1 5 Learn Arabic to Understand Quraan – for Allaah! What is the Qur’aan? Proof that it is Allaah’s Book is based on Allaah’s statement: آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۚ كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللَّـهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allaah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messenger. [Al-Baqarah 2:285] Proof that the Qur’aan is His Word is based on Allaah’s statement: وَإِنْ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ اسْتَجَارَكَ فَأَجِرْهُ حَتَّىٰ يَسْمَعَ كَلَامَ اللَّهِ And if anyone of the Mushrikoon (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah) seeks your protection then grant him protection, so that he may hear the Word of Allaah (the Qur’aan)... [At-Tawbah 9:6] To believe آمَنَ آمَنْتُ Messenger (s) الرَّسُولُ/ رُسُلِ With/in بِ what مَا To send down أَنْزَلَ to إِلَيْ Him/his هُ The believer الْمُؤْمِن الْمُؤْمِنُونَ all كُلٌّ angels مَلَائِكَةٌ Book (s) كِتَابٌ/كُتُبٌ Idolaters مُشْرِكٌ مُشْرِكِونَ speech كَلَامٌ

The Greatness, Eminence & Glory of the Qur’aan The fact that the Qur’aan is the speech of Allaah, the Lord, Creator and Owner of everything, and that its aayaat are guaranteed guidance for human beings for all their concerns, in every situation, and for all times is sufficient to highlight its greatness, eminence and glory. So because the superiority of the Qur’aan over the words of His creation is like the superiority of Allaah Himself over His creation makes it such that absolutely no human can, or would ever be capable of describing the excellence and magnificence of the Glorious Qur’aan. That is, other than the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ since what he speaks is revelation from Allaah, as Allaah said: وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ ﴿١﴾ مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ ﴿٢﴾ وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ ﴿٣﴾ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ ﴿٤﴾١٢٣٤ (1) By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (2) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (3) Neither does he speak of his own desire.(4) It is only a Revelation revealed. [An-Najm 53: 1-4] Thus, our descriptions of the Qur’aan (which we all need to know) would be from the Words of Allaah (found in the Qur’aan) and from words of the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ. By! (swearing) وَ when إِذَا the star النَّجْم not مَا To be misguided ضَلَّ Companion صَاحِ بُ From/about عَن He/it هُوَ except إِلَّا Revelation وَحْيٌ

Allaah, the Majestic said: كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ (This is) a Book (the Qur‘aan) which We have sent down to you, full of blessings that they may ponder over its aayaat, and that men of understanding may remember. [Saad 38:29] The aim of the Quraan: Pondering its Aayaat The Qur’aan was send down by Allaah It is blessed. The aim for sending the Qur’aan is that we may ponder its Aayaat. One can only reflect and be reminded if he/she knows its meanings - this demands learning the Arabic, so ponder! The Qur`aan is the most magnificent book in the world! Let us benefit from this magnificence by honoring – it isthe best speech - the Speech of Allaah. So, we can honor it by learning it and understanding it. We ask Allaah - High and Exalted is He -to bless us, help us to be consistent, and grant us success! Some Recommended Etiquettes for Reciting Qur’aan… 1.Be ritually pure and tidy out of respect for this Glorious Book. (The scholars agree that it is permissible for a person in a state of hadath to recite Qur’aan. However, a junub person must not recite the Qur'aan until after performing Janabah Ghusl.) 2.Say the Isti`aadhah 3.Recite the Basmalah before every soorah except at-Tawbah 4.Recite it slowly and deliberately, pondering its meanings What elevates the Magnificence of the Qur’aan is that Allaah ﷻ laid down certain etiquettes for reciting it. When talking about the great status of the Qur’aan, The Grand Mufti, Shaykh `Abdul-`Azeez Aal Shaykh mentioned 11 etiquettes for reciting the Qur’aan. Before Reciting the Qur’aan Allaah commands us that one must seek refuge with Him from Shaytaan (Satan) before reciting from the Qur’aan. He, the Almighty said: فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ So when you recite the Qur'aan, [first] seek refuge in Allaah from Satan, the expelled [from His mercy]. [An-Nahl 16:98] This is called the isti`aadah ( اَلإِسْتِعَاذَةُ ). Generally, when we begin reciting a soorah we begin with the basmalah ( اَلْبَسْمَلَةُ ), except for Soorah At-Tawbah. To read قَرَأ - قَرَأْتَ The Quraan الْقُرْآنَ Seek refuge اسْتَعِذْ Shaitaan الشَّيْطَانِ Expelled from mercy الرَّجِيمِ

Texts of Al-Isti`aadhah & Al- Basmalah The text of Al-Istiaa`dhah – اَلإِسْتِعَاذَةُ - is: أَعُوذُ بِـاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْـطَانِ الرَّجِـيـمِ “I seek refuge with/in Allaah from Satan the cursed.” The text of Al-Basmalah - اَلْبَسْمَلَةُ - is: بِـسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِـيـمِ “With/in the Name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.” I seek refuge أَعُوذُ In/with بِ In/with the name بِـسْمِ The Entirely Merciful الرَّحْمَٰنِ The Especially Merciful الرَّحِـيـمِ بِ + اللهِ = بِاللهِبِ + اسْـمِ = بِـسْـمِ Please take careful note:

Quraan 101 – 1 12 Learn Arabic to Understand Quraan – for Allaah! The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْءَانَ وَعَلَّمَهُ “The best of you is one who learns Qur’aan and teaches it.” [Al-Bukhaaree] Please reflect upon the above hadeeth, Is there anything more worthwhile/valuable than learning Qur’aan (doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc.)? NEVER! Because nothing can match learning about Allaah and this is all the Qur’aan talks about. Additionally, it teaches us how to live well so that we would be successful. Do you not want to be the best? Do not just say yes – let your action testify to your claim – Learn the Qur’aan and teach it! Being the Best! Good خَيْرٌ he learned (to learn) تَعَلَّمَ he taught (to teach) عَلَّمَ knowledge عِلْمٌ scholar عَالِـمٌ teacher مُعَلِّمٌ
