  First organized in 1804 in France  Applied to European territories such as Spain, lower German states and North Italy  In England, Napoleonic code was never functional, they followed the Civil Law When and Where? France Spain North Italy Germany

  Set of Laws that Napoleon Bonaparte created  Based off of the Roman Law  Revised many points to fit what he wanted Features:  Every person was equal before the law  No secret laws could exist  All laws had to be published  Religious crimes- illegal  Divorce treated as a civil manner  Granted men many rights Napoleonic Code
