Parts of a microscope Before using a microscope it is important to learn the names of the parts. Here is a picture of the parts you will need to learn. Before using a microscope it is important to learn the names of the parts. Here is a picture of the parts you will need to learn. Diaphragm

Eyepiece The eyepiece is the part you look through (duh!) It has a lens which magnifies the object you are looking at. Ours magnifies it 10x the normal image size. Focus knobs There are usually two focus knobs. The large knob moves the body tube in order to focus. The smaller knob moves the tube in very small increments in order to achieve a fine focus. Objective lens The objective lens magnifies the image. There are three of them. Each has a different magnification. Ours magnify 4x, 10x, and 40x. The objective lens magnifies the image. There are three of them. Each has a different magnification. Ours magnify 4x, 10x, and 40x. Objective lens

Stage The stage supports the slide being viewed. It has clips called stage clips that hold the slide in place. The stage supports the slide being viewed. It has clips called stage clips that hold the slide in place. Stage

Diaphragm The diaphragm regulates the amount of light that enters into the body tube. Move it to a higher number if you need more light. Move it to a lower number if you need less light. Mirror The mirror reflects light upward through the diaphragm, through the object, and into the lenses. More expensive microscopes have lights instead of mirrors. They serve the same purpose.
