On p. 166, it says: “Somehow the Wall is even more foreboding when it’s empty like this.” Based on context, what does foreboding mean? Explain how prayers are “ordered” in the Republic of Gilead. How have gender roles been redefined in this society? [Look for specific examples on p. 173 and 182.] 5. Describe “the catastrophe.” HW: Finish the novel by the end of the break.
