I/We Know There are things we are supposed to know, and some things we do not need to know. Knowing the difference can affect our eternal destiny.

Introduction A lady is walking around a pet store enjoying looking at the various animals when she stops to admire a parrot. Suddenly the parrot says, “Braaaaaak, Hey lady, you’re really ugly!” Well, the woman is highly offended and goes straight to the store owner to complain. He sincerely apologizes. Then goes over to the parrot and tells him to be quiet.

Introduction A few minutes later, she walks by the parrot and she hears, “Braaaaaak, Hey lady, you’re really ugly!” Now the lady is furious as she storms back to the owner to voice her outrage. The owner goes over to the cage, grabs the bird by throat, shakes it, and warns it not to speak to the woman again.

Introduction Finally, the lady starts to leave the store and hears the parrot go, “Braaaaaak!’ She stopped and with an icy stare, indignantly snapped back at the parrot, “WHAT?” The bird, strutting back and forth on its perch in a cocky manner, said, “You know what!” That is what we call getting your attention

I/We Know (Introduction) Too often there is an emphasis on “gray areas,” unanswered questions, or issues that God has not revealed to us in the Bible. As long as people feel they cannot know something; they do not care to learn what that something is. It does remind us that there are some things that we just know.

I/We Know (Introduction) And there are some things we should know. Especially when it comes to God’s Word. But there are plenty of things that we know. Here are some things we know from God’s word.

I/We Know “We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true — even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” (I John 5:20, NIV) Compare to Colossians 1:9 “For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding”.

I/We Know “You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. (2 Corinthians 8:9, NKJV) Philippians 2: 8 “…He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross”.

I/We Know “For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. (Ephesians 5:5, NAS) 1 Corinthians 6:9 “Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither…shall inherit the kingdom of God”. This is a rhetorical question…an answer not necessary because the point is made already.

I/We Know “We know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” (Hebrews 10:30, ESV) How well do we know God? When we know Him well enough to cast our cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7). When we know Him well enough to let Him take up our cause and vindication.

I/We Know “…We know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.” (I John 2:3, NKJV) Do you know Jesus. Jesus knows you (if). “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15). “My sheep hear My voice and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). Knowing Jesus and God is not just a casual acquaintance, but an intimate knowledge of their character and feelings.

I/We Know “…I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.” ( 2 Timothy 1:12, NIV) I know God. I trust God. I expect God to take care of me. If I do my part, God will do His part.

I/We Know “We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. (I John 4:13, NIV) He abides in us, if we allow Him to. This is by abiding in His doctrine (2 John 9). Jesus and God (along with the Holy Spirit) will make their abode in our hearts, if we let them. This means we no longer live for ourselves, but allow them to live in me (Galatian 2:20).

I/We Know “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28, NKJV) This is a belief in the Divine providence. We can’t prove that God does these things, but somehow we just know it. Somehow, things work out for those who have obedient faith in God.

I/We Know “We know that if the tent, which is our earthly home, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (2 Corinthians 5:1, ESV) We will not live forever. Jesus went to prepare a place for us (John 14). He will come again and gather up His own. How wonderful heaven will be.

Conclusion The knowledge of God is great and powerful. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge”(Proverbs 1:5). We must ever seek to grow in grace and knowledge (2 Peter 3:18). The best part of this is the fact that this is no mystery. It has plainly been revealed in the pages of the Bible. Now, do you know Jesus?
