STAR Events Helpful Hints  Go to on the home page left hand side click “Competitive Events Guide”.  Print your Specific Event Guidelines and Rubrics  Print Scenarios for Food Innovations, Interior Design and Environmental Ambassador  Print Glossary and Allowable Presentation Elements  Print Questions &Answer Guide from the national website – Most of your questions can be answered there!  Double Check Eligibility Requirements  Must be Nationally Affiliated by February 1 st

Event Categories: Junior Level 6 th – 9 th grade Senior Level 10 th – 12 th grade (Graduating Senior CAN compete at Nationals) Occupational Level 10 th – 12 th grade in Occ. Classes (Education, Interior Design or Culinary) __________________________________________ If affiliated in the wrong category, you must fill out Member Transfer Form located on our national website. If a combination of levels, then must compete as Senior. (i.e. Senior and Occupational or Junior and Senior)

What Happens at Competition? Registration…Each participant must sign in Orientation Meeting Given your time to compete…arrive early Help them relax – may want to have a special card or treat bag to give them Top two teams in each category Region advance State STAR events in March 22-24, 2015 All 1 st and 2 nd place team advance to Nationals except Culinary Arts

Adviser’s Responsibility… Help the Region Adviser find judges You are required to submit one judge for every three member participants Monitor student Some regions may provide lunch No closing ceremony Scores will ed to you no later than Monday following the competition Offer assistance to Region Advisers

What are Judges Looking For? Neat and Professional appearance – Could have matching or themed outfits Look at Rubrics for each event then review again! Practice how to answer the judges questions Smiling FACES!

Dress for STAR Events Unless otherwise specified appropriate clothing, in events which do not allow costumes or uniforms, includes professional attire (any appropriate colors), the official FCCLA blazer/uniform, or clothing which meets the conference dress code. Refer to page 83 on guidelines.

Changes Career Investigation now has Occupational Category and no longer will allow costumes Chapter Service Portfolio and Chapter in Review Portfolio can be hardcopy or electronic portfolio, but hardcopy must be official FCCLA binder. Scrapbook NO LONGER allowed. Testing in Applied Math for Culinary Management and Parliamentary Procedure will be worth 20% of team score. Interior Design will now require a Client Invoice instead of a Project Budget and must use online template. Early Childhood theme at Region and State will be national theme – “Stay Fire Smart: Fire Safety and Prevention” No Virtual Poster discontinued

Changes continued Additional skill selections have been added to both Fashion Construction and Recycle and Redesign. Topics for Early Childhood Education, Environmental Ambassador, Food Innovations and Digital Stories for Changer are included in event guidelines. Interior Design scenario and Culinary Arts menus will be posted online on the STAR Events Resources page.

Oral Presentation Length (not too short – not too long) Use of Display, Portfolio or Visuals Appropriate Dress Overall neatness of the participants and materials Students should introduce themselves and shake hands with the judges!!!

Rules Explanation: Pay close attention to time limits What material are required or allowed Know your dimensions… bring a tape measure *Don’t put things under the table! Manuals/Portfolios use the one purchased through Nationals at Manuals- Pages are one sided only File folders – Can be purchased through national office. Some require you to have 3 stapled copies (look at guidelines) and look at correct labeling, number required, etc.

New Event Clarifications Print Question and Answer section on the national website under PROGRAMS then STAR Events. If you do not see your answer, then The national office will have 3 days to respond.

Region STAR Events Registration Go to under COMPETITIONS thenwww.gafccla.com Region STAR Events Early Bird Registration (until Feb. 1 at midnight) $20.00 per participant Regular Registration (Feb. 2 – Feb. 3 at midnight) $25.00 per participant Substitutions and Deletions MUST BE made online before Feb. 3. No Refunds will be given for deleted competitors after Feb. 3. After Feb. 3, NO CHANGES MAY BE MADE.
