April Midnight by. Arthur Symons

Biographical Information British poet, critic, and translator Arthur Symons was born in Wales and educated by private tutors. At 16, Symons moved to London, where he joined a vibrant literary community and participated, alongside poets like William Butler Yeats, in the notorious Rhymers’ Club, a group of poets and writers responsible for witty repartee.

Structure I think he made the structure on the poem for lines because he knew how much room he needed for each line.

Imagery

Speaker The speaker is Arthur he is trying to say how beautiful the weather in April is.

Stanza 1 Side by side through the streets at midnight, Roaming together, Through the tumultuous night of London, In the Miraculous April weather. Meaning he was walking with someone down the street and he says that he likes the weather.

Stanza 2 Roaming together under the gaslight, Day’s work over , How the spring calls to us, here in the city, Calls to the heart form the heart of a lover! Meaning that he loves someone

Stanza 3 Cool to the wind blows, fresh in our faces, Cleansing, entrancing, After the heat and the fumes and the footlights, Where you dance and I watch your dancing. Meaning that the weather feels good to the man in the poem and saying that he watched a friend dance

Stanza 4 Good it is to be here together, Good to be roaming, Even in London, even at midnight, Lover-like in a lover’s gloaming Meaning that who ever the writer is with they care about

Stanza 5 You the dancer and I the dreamer, Children together, Wandering lost in the night of London In the miraculous. Meaning that he wondering the night with friend who he has known sense they were children.
